Bright International School, located in Loulé, Portugal, is undergoing a major renovation aimed at redefining the learning environment. This ambitious project, supported by the Sharing Education Group, reflects a bold commitment to innovation, sustainability, and personalised education in the Algarve.
Redefining Learning Spaces
The renovations began in December 2024, starting with the senior school facilities, and were completed in time for Term 2 in January 2025. Traditional classrooms have been replaced with open, flexible, and adaptable spaces designed by the Danish studio Rosan Bosch and produced locally by Portuguese craftsmen. These spaces allow students to work individually, collaborate in groups, or engage in quiet reflection, accommodating a variety of learning styles.
CEO of the Sharing Education Group, Miguel Ladeira Santos, explained: “Innovation in education starts by changing how we learn, creating spaces that inspire creativity, collaboration, and adaptability.“
The improvements extend to bespoke furniture and modern interiors, supporting the school’s pedagogical philosophy while prioritising sustainability and local craftsmanship.
Academic Growth and Programmes
Bright International School offers Cambridge Early Years, Primary, and Lower Secondary programmes, with the first IGCSE cohort beginning in Year 10 in September 2025. Principal Tom Caston, with his expertise in IGCSE and A Levels, has already contributed significantly to the school’s development, positively impacting both students and parents.
The renovations also prepare the school for future expansion, including additional classrooms, science labs, art and music studios, and outdoor facilities such as a basketball court and football field. Miguel highlighted: “Our current Year 9 students will move into Year 10 next year, marking our first IGCSE cohort in the Algarve. We have seen very significant improvements in academics, collaboration, and creativity.“
Innovation, Sustainability, and Community
Sustainability is central to the project. Furniture and materials are locally sourced, minimising environmental impact, while experienced construction teams from across Portugal were housed locally during the renovation to ensure quality and precision.
The school’s transformation is part of a broader vision by the Sharing Education Group to elevate Bright International School as a leading institution in Portugal and Europe. The innovative approach reflects a deep commitment to student-centred learning and demonstrates the potential of strategic investment in educational facilities.
Engaging Families and the Wider Community
Bright International School continues to attract growing interest, with admissions open year-round. An Open Day scheduled for February 1, 2025, will allow families to tour the new facilities, meet the team, and experience the school’s vibrant learning environment firsthand.
